Everyday Ghosts Challenge - Day 3 - Blind

Background:

When he started his career, he worked as a normal doctor in a normal hospital of his times. Doing his job like every other doctor would, he always wished to find cures for several illnesses, but for that he needed to do experiments, preferably with living subjects. Not being able to do that though in his usual job, he was frustrated and started to hate his average, normal and boring life.
Someday he got the chance he was waiting for. The nearby asylum needed help as there were too many patients and not enough staff to take care of them. He changed jobs and started working there. As it was already usual to do several experiments to cure the patients, he finally felt motivation again and developed new methods, thinking he could help the people. But instead he made their existence even more gruesome.
His experiments were cruel and far away from what a doctor should actually do to help those who need it. Besides methods like lobotomy and electroshock therapy he invented new ways to treat the patients, preferably working with their eyes to make them stop see things that don't exist.
But even if he was eager and creative, he had no success. Lots of his patients died instead due to his methods. At some point he didn't even care anymore. He didn't care about their deaths, if one died, he'd get another. Losing his mind and everything he once stood for, he just continued his experiments for no more reason.
It ended when he got attacked by several patients who couldn't take the pain anymore, killing him with their bare hands and stealing his eyes as well.
